Divination
"The practice of seeking knowledge of the future
of the unknown by supernatural means",
Oxford English Dictionary.
People have always been fascinated by divination, prophecy and the future. And why not, it is fascinating. While we may fear it a little, we still want to know. We may seek the aid of a gifted Intuitive, AKA "Psychic", with the ability to see into our lives and future but what can we really learn from them? Most people assume that what a seer tells them is the future apparent but while a diviner will report the possibilities given the current situation, each of us holds the power to change that future. And for those of us who believe that we chose our path and spiritual goals before coming into this life, also realize our chosen destination remains in check and balance with our own free will. Our life choices are ours and ours alone. And because we always have the capacity to change and create our reality, nothing is engraved in stone. So while a psychic may offer insight and enlightenment she/he cannot firmly decide our future. Only we have the ability to make the necessary changes needed to manifest our desires.
Finding The Perfect Tarot Deck...
Looking for that perfect deck is an amazing journey and it is very personal. There is no right or wrong deck. You can have one deck or you can have many. I have several decks but I have two main decks that I read with on a regular basis. I have one personal deck that I use just for myself and it pretty much goes with me everywhere. But depending on my mood or my question I may choose from one of my other decks. I also have a deck that I use when I read for clients. I recommend that your first deck be something that inspires you. The images of your main deck should draw you in, touch your heart, making you want touch them all the time. Depending on how far you wish to take your tarot study, you may eventually choose to purchase a more traditional deck, perhaps something based on the Golden Dawn system, to help you have a better grasp of tarot. For my personal deck I use the medium size Illuminated Tarot. The deck I use for professional readings is the large size Illuminated Tarot. Both of these decks are handmade by Carol Herzer. They are a recolored version of the Waite deck. I paid the extra money for the iridescent paint and they were well worth the money. Her amazing use of color is captivating. I love them! For meditation and study purposes I use the B.O.T.A. Tarot deck (which I colored myself), the Rider-Waite Tarot Deck and the Golden Dawn Tarot. My first deck and the deck that I used as my personal deck for years was the Thoth Tarot Deck by Aleister Crowley. I still love this deck, as I find the images positively hypnotic, but ultimately it is the Golden Dawn system that I prefer. So from one tarot geek to another....it's your deck, get the one that speaks to you. The Aeclectic Tarot is one my favorite sites for browsing and has a vast collection to look at. I shop for new tarot decks at stores such as Eclectic By Nature in Greensboro, NC and various books stores such as Borders,Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.
