Practical Magick & The Craft
Tools of a Witch...
The most important tool of all is the witch herself.
It is her intention and energy that determine the results of any magical work.
Some of the most powerful workings can be done without the use of material objects.
It is the focus, concentration, intentions, and desires that reside within
us that are the real tools of Witches.
The Basic Tools of Magick
The Elements – Fire, Water, Air, and Earth
represent all the things and process
of the material realm.
Fire corresponds to things of spirit and will – to the magick of passion and ecstasy, as well as violence – and to processes of intensifying, transmuting, and creating or destroying.
Water corresponds to things emotional and to process of flowing, adapting, and reflecting – as in spells involving love, friendship, reconciliation, laughter, loss, and grief.
Air corresponds to things intellectual and to processes of transferring, communicating, and clarifying – as in spells for travel or divination for knowledge.
Earth corresponds to things physical and tangible and to processes of solidifying, stabilizing, and reinforcing – as in spells for healing the body, attracting wealth or a job, or stabilizing a home or family.
Fire is like the light and warmth of our souls.
Water is like our tears, which express both our sorrow and our joy.
Air is like our breath, which conveys our words.
Earth is like the bones that give strength and structure to our bodies.
Traditionally, Witches possess four primal powers:
To Know, to Will, to Dare, and to be Silent.
These signify a Crafter’s ability to discern and boldly act on
the truth while also remembering discretion is the better part of valor. The four Witch Powers are associated with the Four Quarters
and the Four Elements.
Fire – The Power to Will – South
Water – The Power to Dare – West
Air – The Power to Know – East
Earth – The Power to be Silent - North
